DESIGN DEVELOPMENT

While the process of healing a wound is complex on its own, the interconnectivity and complex structure of the finger exacerbate the potential for complications in re-storing complete hand function.

When the skin becomes broken, the skin responds autonomously and expediently to heal itself. Dressings are often used to help facilitate the healing process, however their use is often attributed to delayed healing.

MATERIAL EXPLORATION

The exploration of materials was a significant portion of my research.

Hydrogel has been progressively researched over the past years for its excellent biomimetic properties, however its one downfall is in its low threshold for moisture absorbency. Polyurethane foam is one commonly used material used for wound dressings that facilitates moisture absorbency. As a result, I explored the use of hydrogel and polyurethane foam in unison to discover how they can co-operate to provide moisture balance, while benefitting from hydrogels non-adherent and healing properties.

CONCEPT

In A/W 2021-2022 we imagine a retreat from the world into the woods, and the backcountry of our minds. We’re tuning in, dropping out and searching for ourselves in excellent technical footwear.
